The Centre

At Trabolgan Bird of Prey Educational Centre we have worked hard to achieve our Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice award. Located on the golf course, just up from the beach within the grounds of Trabolgan Holiday Village, we’re open from late March to early November.

Our indoor centre houses birds of prey from around the world and offers the chance to learn about birds of prey and raises awareness of indigenous species and the environmental issues they face. The information we provide is tied in to the National Curriculum so it’s great for school projects.

On your visit you’ll see falcons, hawks and owls – including the world’s largest type of owl and some of the smallest. Our visitors return year after year to chart the progress of our regular birds as well as meeting the many guest birds of prey we care for from time to time.

Things you should know…

All our birds are captive bred and are privately owned by Sam Murphy of Ravenstone Birds of Prey, a state licensed falconer since 1999.
Our birds are hand-reared and trained by Sam.

In our indoor centre we do not use cages (the birds are not flying around!) they are displayed on traditional falconry perches, which are sanctioned and inspected by the National Parks & Wildlife Service and Zoo License Inspectors. Our birds free-loft at home each evening.

Our work at Trabolgan is seasonal so your entry fee helps towards the feeding and upkeep of our beautiful birds for the months when the centre is closed. Your entry fee also enables us to care for and rehabilitate injured wild birds all year round.

We are an EU licensed and registered Raptor Zoo.

Lights can be dimmed and background music turned off if required. The centre is fully buggy and wheelchair accessible.

Pre-booking of our ‘Quiet Times’ is essential to ensure privacy and availability. Please contact us for more details and to book.

Our Mission

One of our key objectives is to educate people to help them understand the issues facing our wildlife and show how adjusting behaviour can protect our indigenous species.
We allow people to see our birds up close and explain to them how different birds have evolved to survive in the challenging environments they exist in.
We love people to enjoy spending time in the centre and holding birds for photographs. We also sell a range of gifts and souvenirs, with funds raised going towards the care of rescue birds.

Enjoy your visit and thank you for supporting us.

Photographic Studio

For a truly memorable souvenir of your time at Trabolgan, pose for photographs holding one of our birds in our photographic studio. We have small and medium-sized owls for our younger guests, and large or extra large options for the more adventurous!

Photographs start at just €6 and are ready for collection next day, or can be posted on for a small charge.

Harry Potter Inspired Experience

We get lots of visitors, of all ages, who are Harry Potter fans. Our special photo experience has become very popular. This photoshoot includes dressing up to hold your owl, an exclusive photo sleeve and Gringotts voucher which is redeemable against our extensive range of merchandise.

Gifts & Souvenirs

There really is something for everyone in our well-stocked gift shop. Proceeds go toward the care of our birds and rescued and injured wildlife. You can also browse our Online Shop – we ship worldwide.
